Plot

A group of college-aged kids party at Mardi Gras. On the way home they crash their car into a tree and also run over what appears to be a hospital patient. Shortly after the accident, an ambulance appears and takes the kids and the patient to the local hospital for treatment. Let the fun begin!

Pros

This is a no-nonsense blood and guts movie with some good acting and a decent script. They donít spend a lot of time with character development unless that morsel of information fits directly into the script. The characters are interesting and the gore is in your face; no filtering down the colors in this film. There is a very creative scene at the end of the film involving internal organs; very impractical but original. And you can also feel sympathy for the antagonist if you so desire; personally I think he got what he deserved.

Cons

This is a large multi-story hospital with exactly four people on staff; one doctor, one nurse and two thuggish looking nurses/interns. Hello! Does this sound normal to you? And, if you've read any of my other reviews, you also know of my hatred for needles; this is a hospital, there are needles.

Extras

  • Audio Commentary with Director/Writer Adam Dierasch, Writers Jace Anderson and Evan Katz, Actor Ross McCall and Producer Jessica Horowitz
  • "Behind the Scenes: In the Operating Room" Featurette
  • Miss Horrorfest Webisodes
  • Alternate Ending

Recommendation

"Autopsy" was a very pleasant surprise and addition to my horror movie collection. Hospitals are supposed to be a place of safety; I love how they turned that on feeling of security on its head. I would highly recommend this film to all horror genre fans.
